How to Read a Tower Defence Map in Ten Seconds
Experienced tower defence players seem to solve maps instantly. It's not magic — it's a reading habit anyone can learn, and it turns the tense opening seconds into a quick plan.
Start with the path. Find the longest continuous stretch and any sharp corners; that's where enemies linger and where your damage goes furthest. Mark those spots mentally before you touch anything.
Next, count your buildable tiles near those hot spots. A perfect tower location is useless if you can't build next to it. Then look for terrain features — Ironhold Siege and others let you reshape the path, so ask whether you can create a better chokepoint than the one you're given.
Finally, glance at the enemy preview if there is one. Flying units, fast runners, and armored types each want a different answer, and knowing what's coming lets you commit your early resources confidently. Do this for a few maps and it becomes automatic — you'll place your first tower before most players have stopped reading the briefing.
